This guidebook is for Hiroshima University students considering studying abroad. It offers practical information to support their study abroad planning.

Study Abroad Programs

〇STEP1:Online 

e-START Program (For Undergraduate and Graduate Students)

This online international collaborative program allows Hiroshima University students to work on projects with students from overseas universities.

〇STEP 2: Introduction 

START / START+ Program (For Undergraduate Students)

This program allows students to visit overseas universities for one to two weeks during long university breaks.

Language Training Abroad Programs

Short-term study abroad programs are designed to improve foreign language skills and deepen intercultural understanding. Programs are offered during spring and summer vacations in multiple languages, including French, Chinese, and Korean. 

 〇STEP 3: Semester Study Abroad 

HUSA Program (for Undergraduate and Graduate Students)

This study abroad program allows students to study at partner universities while remaining enrolled at Hiroshima University and is based on institutional agreements. HU students can take the same courses as local students for one semester or one academic year, and earned credits may be transferred toward their degree at Hiroshima University.

USAC Program (For Undergraduate and Graduate Students)

USAC (University Studies Abroad Consortium) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1982. It offers over 50 study abroad programs in more than 25 countries. While primarily serving U.S. university students, Hiroshima University students can participate through partnerships with Japanese universities. 

AIMS Program (For Undergraduate Students)

AIMS (Asian International Mobility for Students) is an international program that promotes multilateral student exchange among universities in Asia, particularly in Southeast Asia. The program aims to foster academic collaboration and intercultural understanding.

〇STEP 4: Research Study & Internships 

HU-GRIP (For 4th-year Undergraduates & Graduate Students)

HU-GRIP is a research-based study abroad program designed to support students academic development and future career goals. Eligible students participate in research activities for one month or longer at overseas partner universities, research institutes, and international organizations affiliated with Hiroshima University. 

Global Internship Program (G.ecbo)

This program supports students in developing global competencies through hands-on internships and cross-cultural experiences. Participants complete internships for one month or longer with overseas branches of companies, international organizations, and government institutions. The program is open to all Hiroshima University students. 

Scholarships (Financial Support for Study Abroad) 

Hiroshima University Kodama Scholarship

Established in 2014 with the generous support of Hiroshima University alumni Mr. Osamu Kodama and Ms. Eiko Kodama, this scholarship supports Hiroshima University students pursuing study abroad. Many recipients have broadened their global perspectives through their overseas experiences. 

JASSO Student Exchange Support Program

JASSO is a government-affiliated organization that supports Japanese students and international students through scholarships, study support, and student life services. Its mission is to promote equal access to education and international exchange. 

Public-Private Partnership Study Abroad Support System

This program is supported by the Japanese government (MEXT) in cooperation with private companies and organizations. It promotes practical study abroad experiences such as internships, volunteering, and fieldwork in addition to language study. 

 

Local Government and Private Organizations

Local governments and private organizations offer their own scholarship programs to support students who wish to study abroad. These scholarships are designed to encourage students to broaden their global perspectives, reflecting the unique strengths and values of each region and organization. 

Faculty and Staff Dispatch

Staff Knowledge Exchange

The INU (International Network of Universities) Staff Knowledge Exchange is a professional development program in which university staff members spend a short period at partner institutions. Participants share best practices and learn about administrative work and organizational management across universities worldwide.
