International Exchange

Delegation from the University of Zambia Pays a Courtesy Visit to HU President Ochi

On October 2, 2026, a delegation from the University of Zambia (UNZA), led by Vice-Chancellor Mundia Muya, paid a courtesy visit to Hiroshima University (HU) President Mitsuo Ochi.

Also present at the meeting were Executive Vice President (Global Initiatives) Shinji Kaneko, Executive Vice President (Kasumi Campus, Faculty Personnel and Public Relations) Junko Tanaka, and Professor Yoko Shimpuku of HU's Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences. The participants exchanged views on opportunities for future collaboration between the two universities in education and research.

Collaboration between HU and UNZA dates back to 2002, when our then Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation joined forces with the University of Zambia's School of Education to implement the Zambia Education Program in collaboration with JICA.
The two universities concluded a university-level international exchange agreement in 2021 and have continued to strengthen their ties. In 2025, Vice-Chancellor Muya participated in the 3rd University Presidents for Peace Conference hosted by HU, further contributing to exchanges between the two institutions.

This visit is expected to further advance academic and people-to-people exchanges between HU and UNZA and contribute to even closer relations between Japan and Zambia.
