On October 30, 2026, a J-WISE Alliance* Study in Japan Information Session was held at Phenikaa University in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The information session was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam (MOET), Phenikaa University, and the J-WISE Alliance, and was conducted as part of the event titled “Vietnam-Japan Education Fair 2026, jointly organized by Phenikaa University, Hiroshima University, J-WISE Alliance, and MOET.” As the first joint overseas event since the launch of the J-WISE Alliance, the session provided information on study opportunities at seven national universities in western Japan: Hiroshima University, Kobe University, Okayama University, Kumamoto University, Yamaguchi University, Shimane University, and Ehime University that make up the Alliance.

At the opening ceremony, Shinji Kaneko, Executive Vice President for Global Initiatives, delivered an address. In his speech, Executive Vice President Kaneko expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the co-hosts, MOET and Phenikaa University, and introduced the framework of the "J-WISE Alliance"—formed by seven national universities in western Japan: Hiroshima University, Kobe University, Okayama University, Kumamoto University, Yamaguchi University, Shimane University, and Ehime University. He strongly conveyed their commitment to actively welcoming outstanding Vietnamese talent who will serve as bridges between both nations, supported by an integrated, cross-university framework covering recruitment, admission, academic and daily life support, and post-graduation career settlement.

On the day of the event, approximately 1,000 local high school and university students aspiring to study in Japan attended. Yoko Takematsu, Vice-President (International Cooperation, Diversity Promotion) of Yamaguchi University, together with representatives from the universities of the J-WISE Alliance, conducted information sessions and individual consultations at each university booth. Participants engaged enthusiastically with the presenters, asking numerous questions throughout the event, which concluded with great success.

In addition, three Vietnamese alumni of Hiroshima University joined the event as volunteer interpreters and Phenikaa University students, facilitating smooth communication between prospective students and university representatives while warmly sharing their firsthand study-in-Japan experiences. The venue welcomed many students aspiring to study in Japan, creating an engaging and lively forum for exchange where attendees actively consulted and interacted with faculty, staff, and alumni.

*The J-WISE Alliance is a consortium of seven national universities in western Japan: Hiroshima University, Kobe University, Okayama University, Kumamoto University, Yamaguchi University, Shimane University, and Ehime University. The Alliance promotes an integrated approach to the recruitment, development, and long-term retention of outstanding international students.
