A Delegation from the Santo Tomás University, Republic of Colombia, Visits HU

On July 2, 2025, a delegation led by Dean Rodrigo Cortes Borrero from the Faculty of Law, Santo Tomás University, Republic of Colombia, paid a courtesy visit to the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus of Hiroshima University (HU) and held discussion with Executive Vice President (Global Initiatives) Shinji Kaneko. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Executive Director (Campus Globalization) KIM Minju and Vice Dean Fumio Miyanaga of the School of Law. During the meeting, they exchanged views on educational programs and research related to peace, law, and social development, as well as lessons learned from the reconstruction process of Hiroshima.

The Santo Tomás University is the oldest university in Colombia, founded in 1580 by the Dominican Order. It is one of the most historic universities in Latin America and is internationally recognized as a prestigious private Catholic institution. This visit was realized as part of an academic and cultural experience aimed at deepening the understanding of the university’s students and faculty regarding recovery and reconstruction from conflict, as well as efforts toward global peace. With this visit, HU will promote exchange with the Santo Tomás University as well as other universities and research institutions in Colombia.
