On July 11, 2025, a delegation led by Rector Jari Ojala from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, paid a courtesy visit to the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus of Hiroshima University (HU) and held discussion with Executive Vice President (Research) Seiichi Miyazaki and Vice President (International Exchange/Japanese Language Education) Kazuhiko Koike. During the meeting, they exchanged opinions on the possibility of student and researcher exchange between the two universities, and also introduced the Japan Project, a unique initiative of the University of Jyväskylä.
The University of Jyväskylä was founded in 1863 as the first Finnish language teacher training college in the country. It is actively involved in international development cooperation through education as well as student and faculty exchanges with overseas universities through more than 400 programs. In 2008, an inter-university international exchange agreement was concluded with HU, and to date, approximately 30 students from the University of Jyväskylä have studied at HU, deepening exchange. With this visit, HU will promote exchange with the University of Jyväskylä as well as other universities and research institutions in Finland.
