On May 12, 2026, Mr. Ghaleeb Jeppie, Minister Counsellor for Science, Innovation and Education at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Japan, paid a courtesy visit to Hiroshima University (HU) and met with Executive Vice President for Global Initiatives Shinji Kaneko.
During the meeting, an overview of HU was presented, and the participants exchanged views on the possibilities for collaboration with universities in South Africa. Minister Counsellor Jeppie also expressed strong interest in HU’s initiatives related to peace.

To date, HU has welcomed 13 students from South Africa, and currently one South African student is studying at HU. It is expected that this visit will further promote exchanges with universities and research institutions in South Africa.
