On July 2, 2026, Executive Vice President for Global Initiatives Shinji Kaneko of Hiroshima University (HU), visited the National University of Mongolia (NUM), where he met with President Bayanjargal Ochirkhuyag and Vice President for Research and Cooperation Tsermaa Baatarchuluun.

Founded in 1942, NUM is Mongolia's largest comprehensive university and a leading higher education institution in the country, playing a central role in education and research and producing highly skilled graduates across a wide range of fields.

During the meeting, both universities introduced their respective strengths and international collaboration initiatives and discussed possibilities for future cooperation, including student and researcher exchanges and joint research. President Ochirkhuyag, who earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Nagoya University, expressed a strong interest in academic exchange with Japanese universities based on his own experience studying in Japan. In a friendly and constructive atmosphere, the participants shared their views on how to further develop concrete cooperation between the two universities.

As a result of the discussions, the two universities agreed to conclude a university-level international exchange agreement. They also agreed to proceed with the necessary procedures for concluding the agreement and to continue discussions toward implementing specific exchange and collaborative initiatives.

The visit was part of a series of discussions with the Mongolian government and leading universities in the country and provided an important opportunity to further advance academic exchange between HU and Mongolia. HU will continue to promote the internationalization of education and research and foster the next generation of talent by strengthening its international partnerships.
