HU welcomes new students at 2021 Autumn Term Entrance Ceremony

Hiroshima University welcomed 311 new students, of which 263 are international students, at its 2021 Autumn Entrance Ceremony on Friday (October 1).

The event was held at HU’s Satake Memorial Hall on the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, only newly enrolled students participated in the ceremony under a strict mask-wearing protocol.

“What I would like to ask of you on this occasion is to take a modest stance and to be aware of your own limitation, including areas of ignorance. [...] As we live in a democratic, open society, flooded with an indiscriminate mixture of information and disinformation, it is vital that we cultivate our own discerning minds by always thinking about the ‘whys,’” said President Ochi in his speech.

“I would like you to fully explore your studies and to bravely take on difficult challenges in this turmoil-filled world.”

The Autumn Entrance Ceremony was held in Japanese and English, considering the high enrollment of international students.
