On August 6, 2026, Hiroshima University (HU) welcomed H.E. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to its Higashi-Senda Campus and conferred upon him an honorary doctorate. Approximately 60 people, including HU students, faculty and staff, as well as representatives from Egypt's Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the Embassy of Egypt in Tokyo, attended the ceremony to honor his longstanding dedication and achievements in education. Distinguished guests included Mr. Takehiro Kagawa, Chairperson of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, and Mr. Hiroyuki Tsuneishi, President and Representative Director of SPRIX Inc.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1972, Minister Abdel Latif earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Helwan University in 1994 and has since devoted many years to the field of education. As an executive in the private education sector, he worked extensively in school management, curriculum development, and quality assurance in education. In July 2024, he was appointed Minister of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Since assuming office, he has played a central role in advancing educational cooperation between Japan and Egypt through initiatives such as promoting Japanese-style education, strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and advancing AI and digital education.

The honorary doctorate recognizes Minister Abdel Latif's significant contributions to promoting educational cooperation and human resource development between Japan and Egypt. It also honors his important role in strengthening collaboration with HU and establishing a new framework through which the University’s achievements in education and research can contribute to human resource development in Egypt.

Through the conferral of this honorary doctorate, HU recognizes Minister Abdel Latif’s distinguished achievements and looks forward to further strengthening friendship and cooperation between Japan and Egypt.
