Honorable Interim Chief Minister Ebrahim of Bangsamoro Transition Authority in Mindanao (Philippines) visits HU

On February 5th 2020, Honorable Interim Chief Minister (Hon. ICM), Ahod “AlHaj Murad” Ebrahim and the delegates of Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) visited our Higashi-Hiroshima Campus and met with President Mitsuo Ochi. The meeting was also attended by Executive Vice President Toshiyuki Sato (in charge of International, Peace and Fund affairs), Vice President Yasushi Maruyama (in charge of International Exchange) and Professor Osamu Yoshida (Graduate School of Social Sciences).

Hiroshima University (HU), in collaboration with Hiroshima Prefecture, has been conducting a peacebuilding project for supporting the peace in Mindanao, the Philippines through JICA’s Grass-root Technical Cooperation Scheme. In 2018, a group of 12 trainees, candidates for future public administrators of the new autonomous government in Bangsamoro, made a courtesy visit to President Ochi.

HU was established in 1949 in Hiroshima where the first atomic bomb was dropped. Since then, with the founding principle of “a single unified university, free and pursuing peace”, HU has continuously moved forward by upholding “the pursuit of peace” as one of its guiding principles. We hope that human resource cultivation and other efforts made by HU, will continue to contribute to the peace process of Mindanao.
