On November 5, 2024, H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Slovakia, visited the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus of Hiroshima University (HU) and gave an executive lecture.
During the courtesy visit, H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel met with President Mitsuo Ochi and Executive Vice President (Global Initiatives) Shinji Kaneko. President Ochi, on behalf of HU, congratulated H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel on receiving the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, in the autumn of Reiwa 6, 2024, from the Japanese government. He also noted that since assuming the presidency in 2015, he has promoted various partnerships with Egypt, including the establishment of the Hiroshima University Cairo Center within the campus of Cairo University in 2016, as a center of the university's educational and research activities in Egypt, and again thanked H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel for his significant contributions to HU's exchange with Egyptian institutions of higher education.
At the executive lecture that followed, H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel spoke on the topic of “Challenges facing Peace in today’s World“, presenting potential ideas on how to restore Peace in a turbulent World and what could be the role of international players as advocates for Peace.
H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel spoke on a wide range of topics, including the current state of world peace, issues that have emerged in recent years, the impact of conflicts in various regions on the entire globe, the role of the international community and Japan in realizing world peace, and measures that should be taken in the future.
In his lecture, H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel said, “The world has been seeking an effective role to be played by the United Nations, but unfortunately the current organization’s mechanism has so far failed to resolve any of the ongoing conflicts. The international community is now more than ever required to stand up for the principle of maintaining Peace and Stability, or else the world will be engaged in an endless vicious circle of violence and chaos”, stressing the importance of the international community's role.
The audience of about 50 people listened attentively to the end of the lecture, which was followed by a question-and-answer session, during which many questions were asked and a lively exchange of opinions took place with the participation of Egyptian international students.
President Ochi then presented H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel with a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative gift, to which the audience applauded loudly.
H.E. Mr. Ayman Aly Kamel has served as a diplomat in the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more than 37 years, where he has worked to strengthen relations between Japan and Egypt in the areas of education, economics, and cultural exchange. For his contributions to the ties between the two countries, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, in the autumn of Reiwa 6, 2024.
HU has concluded 13 inter-university international exchange agreements with 8 institutions and 4 inter-faculty international exchange agreements with 4 institutions in Egypt. Currently, 17 students from Egypt are studying at HU.
We hope that this courtesy visit and lecture will strengthen the ties between HU and Egypt in terms of student exchange, education, and research.
