Suspected Unexploded Ordnance Safely Removed — Hiroshima University Hospital to Operate as Usual on August 6

On the morning of August 5, a suspected unexploded ordnance discovered during excavation work at the former site of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences lecture building on Hiroshima University’s Kasumi Campus in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City, was safely removed by police at 2:20 p.m. the same day. Area restrictions have also been lifted. Hiroshima University Hospital will operate as usual on August 6.

The suspected unexploded ordnance was discovered by construction workers during excavation work and was immediately reported to the police by the university. Prioritizing the safety of patients, students, and faculty and staff, access was temporarily restricted both inside and outside the campus around the discovery site. However, as the hospital is located some distance from the site, it was deemed there were no safety concerns, and medical services continued as usual.

We apologize for the concern caused to our inpatients and outpatients, as well as to all residents living around the Kasumi Campus.
