Hiroshima University Professor Emeritus Mitiko Miura-Mattausch, a pioneer in the semiconductor field with a distinguished record of achievements, has been selected as a 2025 Person of Cultural Merit by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The award recognizes individuals who have made particularly outstanding contributions to the advancement and development of culture.
Professor Miura-Mattausch has made major contributions to the establishment of high-precision simulation theory for transistors and to its international standardization. Her achievements have been widely recognized, including the Award for Science and Technology (Research Category) from MEXT’s Commendation for Science and Technology in 2009, and the Medal with Purple Ribbon from the Cabinet Office in 2012.
She is the third individual affiliated with Hiroshima University to be selected as a Person of Cultural Merit, following Tatsuo Morito (HU’s first president, honored in 1971) and Yoshinori Kobayashi (a leading scholar of kakuhitsu stylus-impressed research, honored in 2019).
