On September 20th, the 2017 Fall Semester Degree Conferment Ceremony was held at Hiroshima University Satake Memorial Hall, Higashi-Hiroshima campus. A total of 312 new graduates including 200 international students (38 undergraduate students, 274 graduate students) received their diploma from President Ochi at the ceremony.

In his ceremonial speech, President Ochi paid his special tribute to the international students for their tremendous efforts to overcome linguistic and cultural differences. He congratulated the new graduates, “As we are living in turbulent times, I feel it is incumbent upon everybody to improve our competency in information literacy and to polish up our English communication skills. With this in mind, I encourage all of you to spread your wings across the global stage as peace-pursuing, cultured individuals with an international mindset and challenging spirit.”
