On February 21, 2024, a delegation from Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM) led by Vice Chancellor Sharifudin Md Shaarani visited Hiroshima University (HU) and engaged in a meeting with HU Executive Vice President in charge of Global Initiatives Shinji Kaneko. During the meeting, in addition to discussion on various topics such as furthering academic exchanges and the possibility of signing an agreement between the two universities, there was an introduction to the Morito Institute of Global Higher Education 3 +1 Program, one of HU's unique inbound programs for international students. After the meeting, they visited the Central Library on campus where they exchanged views on library management and observed the Writing Center and the Valuable Materials Room.

USIM is an Islamic university established in 1998 with funding from the Malaysian government.
Associate Professor Dr. Zoraida Mustafa, Dean of the Centre for Core Studies at USIM, who visited HU with Vice Chancellor Sharifudin Md Shaarani, is a former international student of HU who earned her doctoral degree in 2006. In 2023, she was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays from the Japanese government at the 2023 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals, for her contribution to promoting Japanese language education in Malaysia and mutual understanding between Malaysia and Japan.

HU has signed 7 inter-university international exchange agreements with 7 institutions and 4 inter-faculty international exchange agreements with 4 institutions in Malaysia. Currently, there are 13 international students from Malaysia studying at HU. This courtesy visit is expected to further promote exchange with USIM as well as other universities and research institutions in Malaysia.
