Japan Academy Prize and the Imperial Prize of the Japan Academy

The Japan Academy Prize is a prize conferred for theses, books or other research achievements that are deemed to be particularly academically outstanding.Past winners include Hisashi Kimura, Toshio Takamine, and Hideyo Noguchi, as well as subsequent Nobel laureates Hideki Yukawa, Shinichiro Tomonaga, Kenichi Fukui, Reona (Leo) Esaki, Masatoshi Koshiba, Ryoji Noyori, and Akira Suzuki.

There have been seven prize-winners from Hiroshima University to date. Of these, two have also been awarded the Imperial Prize, winners of which are selected from among the winners of the Japan Academy Prize.
