On August 3, 2023, personnel from higher education institutions in Egypt visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park as part of the Hiroshima University 75th+75th Anniversary Project, ‘Ties Between Hiroshima and Egypt’. As a group, they visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and deepened their understanding of the situation in Hiroshima before and after the dropping of the atomic bomb, as well as the horror of nuclear weapons. Afterwards, they laid flowers at the memorial cenotaph for victims of the atomic bomb.
As the five representatives of the group, Professor Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty (Ain Shams University, Egyptologist and Archaeologist, Former Minister of Antiques), Major General Atef Moftah (General Supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum Project and Surrounding Area), Professor Dr. Hany Helal (Professor, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University; Coordinator of the Scan Pyramids Project; Former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research), current Ambassador of Japan to Egypt Mr. Hiroshi Oka, and President Mohamed El-Sayed El-Shinawi of Galala University paid the floral tribute at the cenotaph. All participants took a moment of silence to pay their respects to the victims lost in the atomic bombing and renewed their vow to pursue peace.
