On September 8, 2023, members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) in the Philippines, including Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform, Dr. Mohammad S. Yacob, who was in Japan for an invitation program by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), paid a courtesy visit to Hiroshima University (HU) and held a meeting with Executive Vice President in charge of Global Initiatives, Shinji Kaneko. JICA staff as well as HU Professor Mari Katayanagi (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences) and Associate Professor Dahlia Collado Simangan (the IDEC Institute) were also in attendance.

During the courtesy visit, opinions were exchanged on various topics such as further cooperation in the future based on the Joint Statement of Cooperation made between the BTA and HU in 2020.

Currently, there are 22 students from the Philippines studying at HU. This courtesy visit is expected to further promote exchange with universities and educational institutions in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region as well as the Philippines at large.
