HU established Bandung Center.

On July 16, “The Hiroshima University Bandung Center” opened on the campus of the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) in the Republic of Indonesia. At the opening ceremony, Memorandum of Understanding for the center’s establishment was signed between Dr. Yasuo Yamane, Executive and Vice President (Research) of Hiroshima University, and Dr. Wawan Gunawan A. Kadir, Vice Rector (Research and Innovation) of the Institute of Technology Bandung.

Hiroshima University concluded the international exchange agreement with the Institute of Technology Bandung in September 2006. Since then, both universities have steadily implemented academic exchanges such as conducting joint researches and researchers’ exchanges, and holding scientific seminars. For promotion of international industrial-academia collaboration, both universities have cooperated in holding training workshop for engineers in the Japanese industrial complexes, surveying the situation of technical transfer, and promoting joint researches with Japanese enterprises in Indonesia.

The number of Indonesian students at Hiroshima University amounts to 70 (as of May 2010), which is the second largest number after China. It is expected that the HU Bandung Center encourages excellent Indonesian students more to come to the Hiroshima University.

For the management of the HU Bandung Center, HU will contrive a way by receiving financial supports of private enterprises, which is expected to become a new model for overseas bases management in the future.
