Fourth Council Meeting for INU

The Fourth Council Meeting for the International Network of Universities (INU) and an International Forum were held at Hiroshima University on 28 October 2003. INU was established in 1999 and has participants from 12 universities in 10 countries. Its main purpose is to get students to enroll in courses conducted using communications technology and other means and to promote exchange between students, faculty and staff at participating universities. Hiroshima University is a member of the executive committee.



Presidents, Vice-Presidents and International Affairs staff from a total of 10 universities from seven countries, including Hiroshima University, attended the Fourth Council Meeting. Capital Normal University and Harbin Medical University attended as observers and their membership in INU was confirmed during the Council Meeting. Other items discussed at the Council Meeting included, promotion of student, faculty and staff exchange, lowering of membership fees and promotion of e-learning.

The International Forum was held in the afternoon with around 100 students, faculty and staff from Hiroshima University in attendance. Professor Osborne, Vice-Chancellor and President of La Trobe University, gave a preliminary address, which was followed by addresses from five universities about "Internationalization Strategies for University Education". The forum was very beneficial for all who attended.



Prior to the Council Meeting, on 27 October the INU members visited the World Cultural Heritages of Miyajima and the Peace Memorial Park. The weather was perfect and the participants enjoyed Japanese culture, history and the beautiful scenery of Miyajima.
