The Etak disinfectant, effective against the coronavirus, has been donated to our university

On May 13, a disinfectant solution containing long-acting antimicrobial agent Etak, developed by Professor Hiroki Nikawa of the Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, was donated to our university by co-developer and manufacturer, Manac Inc. and CampusMedico Co., Ltd., a venture company originated at Hiroshima University.

On the same day, the presentation ceremony held at the Kasumi campus was attended by Mr. Kouya Murata, the president of Manac Inc., Mr. Yūji Takada, CEO of CampusMedico Co., Ltd., and Professor Nikawa. 100 cans of commercial disinfectant (4 liters) were donated to Ms. Junko Tanaka, Executive Vice President of Hiroshima University.

“Thank you for the donation in spite of the shortage of antiseptics nationwide. We would like to use it to reduce the risk of infection in the face-to-face classes and the practical work classes” said Executive Vice President Tanaka, and presented a certificate of gratitude. President Murata commented, “We are currently in full operation, yet it is difficult for our products to spread to many households. I hope it can be useful to those working in the medical field.”

Etak, developed in 2009, is an antibacterial and antiviral agent whose effects last for a week. In addition to influenza and norovirus, it is also said to be effective against the novel coronavirus.
