[75/G7] G7 youth appeal for nuclear disarmament at Hiroshima summit

Leading up to the G7 Hiroshima Summit held in Hiroshima in May, the "Hiroshima G7 Youth Summit" took place from April 25 to 27. The event was sponsored and organized by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and hosted in collaboration with The Center for Peace at Hiroshima University (HU).

The summit brought together 50 young people from 19 countries — mostly from G7 countries — who engaged in panel talks and workshops to gain a deeper understanding of the inhumanity of nuclear weapons and discuss potential actions for their elimination.

Additionally, participants had the opportunity to hear firsthand accounts of atomic bomb survivors and visited significant sites such as the Peace Memorial Park, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and the Atomic Bomb Dome.

On the concluding day of the youth summit, the 50 delegates presented the "Hiroshima G7 Youth Statement" to the G7 leaders, highlighting 11 specific recommendations for nuclear disarmament.

During the three-day event, HU President Mitsuo Ochi gave the opening remarks while Professor Noriyuki Kawano, director of The Center for Peace, and other experts delivered lectures.
