[75] Opera 'La Traviata' marks 20th anniversary of HU's Satake Memorial Hall

Giuseppe Verdi's opera "La Traviata" was performed on May 14 at Hiroshima University's (HU) Satake Memorial Hall to celebrate the building's 20th anniversary this year.

The event, organized by the "La Traviata" Executive Committee and sponsored by HU, served as a tribute to the memorial hall, which was constructed on the Higashi-Hiroshima campus in 2003 to commemorate the university's 50th anniversary.

Former HU President Yasuo Harada, who contributed to the construction of the hall and is still active as an opera singer at the age of 92, performed alongside faculty members and students from the program in Music Culture Education at HU. Together, they presented the entire three acts of "La Traviata."

The performance also acted as a commemorative event for the 75+75th anniversary of HU, reaffirming the hall's future role as a center for arts and culture in Higashihiroshima City and the surrounding region.

Approximately 1,000 attendees, including local citizens and students, reveled in the euphonious voice of Dr. Harada, who holds the distinction of being the oldest active tenor singer on record. The captivating performance offered a delightful and unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
