On May 29, 2025, Hiroshima University announced its decision to actively welcome international students and early-career researchers who are facing difficulties continuing their studies or research in the United States due to recent changes in U.S. government policy. The university will offer a total support package worth 700 million yen for eligible individuals—up to 74 students and 44 promising early-career researchers.

- Undergraduate Students: Up to 16 students who are approved for transfer into the third year of a bachelor’s program will receive full tuition waivers and accommodation until graduation (two years).
- Graduate Students: Up to 28 students deemed eligible for early program completion by their respective departments will receive full tuition waivers and accommodation until completion. Among these, up to five doctoral students from ASEAN countries will also receive monthly living support.
- Non-Degree Students (e.g., Special Auditing Students): Up to 30 students approved for acceptance by the relevant departments will receive tuition waivers and accommodation for one year.
Support for 44 Early-Career Researchers
- Assistant Professors for Training: Up to 18 postdoctoral researchers or early-career scholars recommended by a Hiroshima University faculty mentor will be offered three-year employment contracts.
- Selected Assistant Professors: Up to 26 early-career researchers who are nearing completion of a doctoral program or who have recently obtained their Ph.D., and are recommended by a Hiroshima University faculty mentor, will be offered two-year employment contracts.
