(January 7-22) '80 Years After the War Special Exhibition' from the Osaka Expo 2025 UN Pavilion

Japanese

Materials from the “80 Years After the War Special Exhibition,” organized by the United Nations Information Centre and TBS Television for the UN Pavilion at the Osaka Expo 2025, are now on display at the Student Plaza on the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus, as a special traveling exhibition titled “Passing On the Story.”

Marking 80 years since the end of World War II, the exhibition aims to reexamine the postwar path toward peace and connections with the international community from multiple perspectives, and to pass these reflections on to the next generation.

The exhibition space features a monitor showing testimonies that convey memories of war. Two iPads have also been installed so that visitors can view a digital archive created by Professor Hidenori Watanave of the University of Tokyo. The archive compiles records of the aftermath of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as survivors’ accounts, into a web-based globe interface that allows users to navigate and view what different areas around the bombed cities looked like at the time.

In addition, artworks created by elementary school students who participated in a peace-themed workshop are also on display. These works depict what the students felt upon hearing sounds such as air raid sirens and bombings in conflict zones, alongside pieces made from weapons and from stationery used in conflict areas.

We invite you to take this opportunity to visit the exhibition.
