Hiroshima University held the INU President Summit on August 7th in a hotel in Hiroshima city Naka-ku.

The INU (International Network of Universities) that Hiroshima University is also a member of, hosted the summit. This year we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the student seminar “Global Citizenship and Peace” which has been held every year since 2006. This year is a major year because it is also 70 years from the atomic bombing; therefore Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ochi suggested this seminar.

12 universities, 16 participants from 10 different countries participated in the summit. The summit started with the latest INU activities and introductions of member universities. The son of the late Kenjiro Matsushima (in a past seminar, Mr. Matsushima made an English speech about his atomic bomb experience) gave a speech, and there was a presentation by a student that participated in a past seminar. Including Hiroshima University’s head of department, there was an unrestrained exchange of opinions about “Actions for internationalization through university consortiums” and “Actions carried out under the President’s leadership”.

This summit was a meaningful opportunity for member universities to share their latest information and efforts to one another and strive for functional enhancement.
