Student Seminar and Master’s Summer School (Peace) The UNGA Role-play

The 10^th INU Student Seminar 2015 took place mainly at Hiroshima University Higashi-Hiroshima campus and in Hiroshima city from Wednesday, August 5 to Tuesday, August 11 in cooperation with 12 INU (International Network of Universities) member universities from 10 countries. Other three separate programs, the Master’s Summer School on “Global Citizenship & Peace”, “Environmental Sustainability” and the Workshop on “Global Health & Nursing” ran in parallel to the Seminar. This year, about 70 students and faculty/staff members from abroad and about 100 from domestic universities participated in the programs.



The seminar is structured around the August 6 commemoration of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. To commemorate the 10^th anniversary of the Seminar as well as the 70^th anniversary of A-bombing, the President Summit was held responding to President Mitsuo Ochi’s suggestion. The Seminar participants visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and listened to a testimony of Hibakusha (A-bomb survivor). The students had workshops and also prepared for the Mock United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Role-play in each assigned group. The Role-play was held on the final day and the participants were divided into 9 groups as delegates of different countries. Participants were given the topic of “Gender, Peace, and Security” and they engaged themselves in serious and heated discussion.



The participants of the Master’s Summer School on “Global Citizenship & Peace”, “Environmental Sustainability” and the Workshop on “Global Health & Nursing” extended their knowledge and deepened exchange with the participants from around the world through the lectures, workshops and field work.



Through the programs, the participants from across the globe are expected to strengthen the newfound friendship in Hiroshima, reaffirm the significance of peace and live as active global citizens.
