(2020.9.28) HU’s Policy Regarding Class Implementation in the 2020 Third Term

Hiroshima University will change the "Hiroshima University Action Guidelines to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19" to Level 1 from Thursday, October 1st. Along with this, the "HU’s Policy Regarding Class Implementation in the 2020 Third Term" announced on August 31 will be partially revised as follows.

  • After sufficient infection prevention measures, depending on the characteristics of each subject and the content of each lesson, we will hold classes that take advantage of the features of face-to-face and online classes. When face-to-face lessons and online lessons are used together, for example, there are the following forms.
    ・Several students participate online (in real time) in face-to-face lessons held on campus
    ・Online distribution of face-to-face lesson video and audio to other classrooms in real time
    ・Record video and audio of face-to-face lessons and distribute on demand
    ・Either face-to-face lessons or online lessons will be held depending on the content of each lesson.
    ・Students are divided into two groups and face-to-face lessons are held every other week.
  • As of September 28, we plan to introduce face-to-face activities for a total of 1,995 subjects (For the course list, click here), such as undergraduate specialized subjects for first-year undergraduate students, some graduate school classes, subjects with 20 or less students judged to be feasible by the dean, subjects that cannot be effective in education unless they are face-to-face in experiments and practical training that involve practical skills. In addition, we will also conduct face-to-face subjects that include elements of research guidance such as seminars.
  • We will secure classrooms so that you can take classes online on campus.
  • For details on how to conduct each class, please check the syllabus on "MOMIJI" or the class bulletin board. In some classes, the implementation method will be changed after the registration period has expired and the students have been confirmed.
  • For face-to-face classes as well, we may switch to online classes depending on the future situation of COVID-19, the danger of commuting to school due to typhoons, etc., and the occurrence of disasters. It is also possible that students may not be able to enter the campus, so you should prepare an environment where you can take classes at home. If this is difficult, please contact the Student Support Office of your undergraduate school/graduate school before starting the 3rd term.
  • If it is difficult to living within a distance of going to campus due to special circumstances, please contact the Student Support Office of your undergraduate school /graduate school.
  • In case you are not able to attend in-person classes due to self-isolation because of health conditions, please send an email to the teacher in charge describing your situation and do not come to class. In this case, your absence will not be treated as an “absence”, and will not cause you any disadvantage.

※The above schedule may be changed depending on the developing situation of COVID-19. If there are changes, we will inform you promptly on our website.

【Things to keep in mind when entering campus and participating in classes and research activities】

  • Please perform a self-check each morning to ensure you do not have symptoms such as a fever (※), severe drowsiness (malaise), a cough, difficulty breathing (dyspnea), a sore throat, a headache, or a problem with smell/taste.
    ※A fever is when your body temperature is 37.5℃ or above, or a temperature of one degree more than usual.
    (1) If you have any of the above symptoms (even if it is just one), please contact your tutor or academic advisor by email and self-isolate at home.
    ・The self-isolation period is 8 days after the symptoms first appear, and 3 days after all symptoms have cleared up without the use of medicine.
    ・During the self-isolation period, please check for the above mentioned symptoms each morning, if your condition changes, contact your tutor or academic advisor by email.
    ・If you are student in the Kasumi area who wants to participate in clinical training, follow the procedures of the training facility and its medical staff.
    (2) If a person who you are living with exhibits any of the above symptoms (providing you are without symptoms), please wear a mask and wash and disinfect your hands before entering facilities on campus.
  • As a provision for the case of a potential infection, please record the date, time and facility you entered.
  • On campus, be sure to thoroughly carry out the three fundamental measures to prevent infection: 1. Keep a physical distance  2.Wear a mask  3.Wash your hands
  • When participating in in-person lessons or research activities or eating in the cafeteria etc. please ensure you keep a distance of 2 meters (at the minimum, 1 meter) with those around you.
  • Whenever possible, avoid face-to-face conversations.
  • When indoors, avoid the “three Cs” (confined and crowded spaces, and close human contact). You can do this by properly ventilating rooms, and not speaking loudly etc.

【Alert to prevent spread of COVID-19】

Based on Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Thorough efforts to prevent cluster outbreaks at restaurants, etc.) and Hiroshima Prefecture ("Hiroshima's coping policy to prevent the spread of COVID-19", "Declaration of strengthening caution against spread of infection-to prevent the second wave"), please take the following actions.

  • Thoroughly avoid " Three Cs" (closed space with poor ventilation, dense place where many people gather, close scene where conversations and utterances occur at short distances), and do not spread the infection by actions that increase the risk of spreading the infection. In particular, be sure to wear a mask, wash your hands, disinfect, and thoroughly ventilate.
  • Please install and use the COVID-19 contact confirmation application (COCOA) of the country.
  • Regarding the extracurricular activities of students, observe the guidelines for "preventing COVID-19 associated with resumption of extracurricular activities" (July 31, 2020), which clearly bans off-campus expeditions, training camps, and parties.
  • Regarding meals, please be careful to prevent infections by avoiding a large number of people and having conversations during meals.
  • When conducting off-campus practice, observe the health management and infection prevention measures set by the facility from the viewpoint of preventing infection at the facility.

【Refraining from domestic movement to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus infection】

  • (2020.8.31 updated) If you move to the following targeted areas, please report the period and area of your stay by the report form and to your tutor or academic supervisor promptly after returning to Hiroshima Prefecture, considering the circumstances so far.
