On Friday, April 23, we conducted the opening ceremony for the Learning Commons (tentative name) in the Central Library on the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus.
Learning Commons is the University Library’s new study space which was rapidly generalized in Europe and the United States.
On top of the objective to “Silently read books and study on your own”, to respond to the requests like “We want to use computers freely”, “We want to be able to study in group sessions”, “We want to be able to experience group lessons” and so on, Hiroshima University made its original Learning Commons.
President Asahara, Director of Library Sato (Vice President (in charge of Library)), Executive and Vice President Okamoto (in charge of Community Collaboration, Public Relations, Information), and a total of about 50 people attended the ceremony. We toured the library while talking to students about how they feel and asked for their impressions. Director of Library Sato said with high expectations that “We hope many students and staff use this space.”
We are working on establishing education and learning environments like the learning commons in more libraries by adding more carrels etc.
