The Hiroshima University Student Volunteer Group “OPERATION TSUNAGARI” dispatched the TSUNAGARITAI for the 5th time to the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster Area, in order to support reconstruction.
“OPERATION TSUNAGARI” was formed by student volunteers immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Aside from charity events in Hiroshima Prefecture, the students also did volunteer work at the disaster area in September and December of last year and in February and March 2012. This time, TSUNAGARITAI is dispatched for the 5th time.
At the departing ceremony, the members of the mission were introduced and the captain talked about the group’s enthusiasm for the activities in the disaster areas. The students were seen off by university affiliates and the local community and left for the Tohoku region.

◎ Workshop before departure
◎ Activities in Tohoku:
・Exchange meetings at temporary housing (crafts, imoni party, potluck party, etc.)
・Study support for the children in the disaster area
・Listening to affected people’s stories and helping out around the house
・Supporting students from other universities (mainly in the Tohoku region) to come and help reconstruction
・Participation in events organized by volunteer groups for the Tohoku Great earthquake and temporary housing residents
・Visiting affected people living outside of evacuation centers to listen to their stories and help out around the house
