Visit from America's Fulbright Memorial Fund Teachers

President Muta Welcomes Fulbright Teachers

On November 28th, 20 teachers from America visited our school as part of the Fulbright Memorial Teachers Fund Program. In the Administration Building's conference room, the visitors heard welcoming speeches University President Muta and Education Department Head Nakahara. Associate Professor Yanase of the Graduate School of Education gave a speech on the topic of "The Perspectives and Topics of Teacher Training in Hiroshima University's Education Department" and a lively question and answer session was held about the Japanese Education System.

After the welcoming ceremony, the visitors viewed the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus outside of the conference room and were impressed by Higashi-Hiroshima's rich natural beauty. After that, the group attended a meeting with graduate school professors and students where they actively exchanged opinions about Teacher Exam systems and the circumstances and states of education in both countries.

In April of 1996, at the Japan-US Summit Meeting (Hashimoto-Clinton), the Fulbright Memorial Teachers Fund Program was agreed upon and in 1997, the program was put into action. Due to this program, since 1952, around 6,800 or more Japanese have contributed in gratitude to and cooperation with the Fulbright Exchange Plan by studying in America and, with Japan-US Educational Exchange as a goal, 600 American elementary and middle school teachers are invited to Japan yearly.
