Hiroshima University has taken part in the Green Legacy Hiroshima Initiative. The aim of this initiative is to deliver the message of peace and regeneration to foreign countries by presenting seeds of A-Bomb survivor trees of Hiroshima City. In December 2012, HU donated gingko seeds to La Trobe University (Melbourne) and gingko, Chinese parasol and Kurogane holly to Griffith University (Gold Coast), both of which are its university level partner institutions.
Immediately, we received a message from Griffith University telling us that the gingko seeds began to sprout. As the seasons in Australia are the opposite to those in Japan, the autumn gingko season is coming now. We hope and pray that it will grow to a big tree in this far away country.
*Green Legacy Hiroshima has been established in 2011 to safeguard and spread worldwide the seeds and saplings of Hiroshima’s A-Bomb survivor trees. Hiroshima University has taken part in this initiative in an effort to promote peace in cooperation with UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research), ANT-Hiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, The Hiroshima Botanical Garden etc., with the intention to actively deliver the message of Hiroshima peace to foreign countries together with its green legacy.
