Nobel laureate Dr. Kajita gave a lecture at Hiroshima University

On November 29th at Satake Memorial Hall, Hiroshima University held a lecture meeting titled “From Hiroshima University to the World: Wisdom from world-renowned researchers 2nd” inviting the Nobel Laureate in Physics 2015 Dr. Takaaki Kajita, Professor and Director of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research in the University of Tokyo.

Dr. Kajita delivered a lecture titled “Discovery of Small Neutrino Masses” and talked in simple terms about his research at the SuperKamiokande in Gifu Prefecture, his discovery of neutrino oscillations which shows that neutrinos have mass, and the current situation in his research area.

This lecture came true because Dr. Kajita is an old friend of our professor (Special Appointment) Shoken Miyama, former Director General of National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. At Satake Memorial Hall, the lecture site, there were about 600 participants including high school students, who asked many questions to Dr. Kajita at the Question and Answer session.
