Hiroshima University medical student was commended for saving a life

On Saturday, January 28th, 2017, Ms. Misaki Kanemori (2nd year student in the Program of Health Sciences, the School of Medicine) was awarded a letter of appreciation from the Chief of the Hiroshima City Naka Fire Station for her first-aid and emergency care.

Last October, three people including Ms. Kanemori rescued a man  in a cardiopulmonary arrest on a street in Hiroshima City who they run across by cooperating with each other. They continued performing chest compressions until the ambulance medical team arrived, and it helped the man to return to society without any after-effects.

Ms. Kanemori said on receiving the letter of appreciation, “I belong to a club called HALS (Hiroshima Activities for Life Support) in which we conduct activities to spread the knowledge of the Basic Life Support to the public. I am glad indeed that what I am learning on a daily basis could help him. By putting the lifesaving measures into practice, there were things that I have experienced for the first time. I would like to make use of this experience and continue studying harder. More than anything else, I am happy that we could save his life!”
