On January 14 2018, Hiroshima University was awarded the "China-Japan Friendship Contribution Award" from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Osaka for its effort in promoting and contributing to the development of friendly exchange between China and Japan over the years. Executive and Vice President Toshiyuki Sato attended the commendation ceremony.

Currently, approximately 1,000 students from China are enrolled in HU. It is hoped that academic and student exchange between HU and universities in China will continue to develop.
