On April 18 International exchange students participating in the Hiroshima University Study Abroad Program (HUSA) made a presentation of their Practical Research Group Project titled the “Glocal Leadership Project : Cooperation of University & Local Society ~Self-Support System: Homesickness Mitigation~”. This became the 2nd Midyear presentation seminar.

International exchange students in the HUSA Program 2017-2018 (thirty nine students from 33 universities in 13 countries of North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia) have been working on the practical group projects since last October. Representing groups reported their progress in the seminar chaired by the associate professor Naomi Tsunematsu of International Center. Students have been undertaking self-support projects to mitigate homesickness. Their challenge is to associate themselves with local people.

The seminar was held as open seminar and students received valuable feedback from officials from local administrative body, professors, graduate students, and international students of Hiroshima University. Students are now trying to activate the projects for their actual use. HUSA intern students (“Globalization Support Internship: Practicum”) reported their challenge of undertaking the “International Exchange in Kurahashi Festival” in February in which they developed leadership, management skills, and how to cooperate in multinational team.

Currently, students are working on projects such as “Before and After Arrival Guidebook for New International Students,” “Shoot IT: An Introductory Video about Hiroshima University,” “Hirodai Circles & Clubs (CnC),” and “HUSA Bucket List.” We are looking forward to the final seminar in July where the students will report the completion of their projects.
