INU Student Seminar 2006

Glance at the Student Seminor

From August 4 to August 9, the International Network of Universities (INU) Student Seminar was held at our university's Higashi-Hiroshima Campus and in Hiroshima City. Participating in the seminar were 17 international students representing 9 affiliated universities from 7 countries, and 40 students (including 10 international students) from our own university.

The seminar's program included visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, participating in the Peace Memorial Ceremony, hearing a speech about the Atomic Bomb experience from an A-Bomb survivor, participating in lectures given by the former Mayor of Hiroshima City, Mr. Takashi Hiraoka, the Director of the UNITAR Hiroshima Office, Dr. Nassrine Azimi, and Associate Professor Hideaki Shinoda of our Institute for Peace Science. Afterwards, the students were divided into groups to discuss topics such as conflict, development and poverty, and religion and culture. On the last day, the students were divided into eight countries and one region and held a Mock U.N. Assembly. In the assembly, students exchanged opinions from their assigned country's point of view on whether or not Japan should revise the Article 9(The Peace Clause) of the Japanese Constitution.

This seminar aims to promote student exchange within INU affiliated universities and was the first of its kind hosted by our university.
