President Ochi and Executive Director Ms. Sally Fegan-Wyles

On May 19, President Ochi received a courtesy visit from Ms. Sally Fegan-Wyles, the Executive Director of United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). This is the second time for Hiroshima University to receive a visit from the Executive Director of UNITAR, since the establishment of Hiroshima Office of UNITAR in July 2003. The Hiroshima Office of UNITAR exercises jurisdiction over the Asia-Pacific region.

Executive Director Fegan-Wyles requested cooperation in programs implemented by Hiroshima Office of UNITAR, such as consecutive support for the Afghanistan Reconstruction Fellowship program and dispatch of lecturers for new programs currently under consideration. President Ochi replied, “The exact form of cooperation still needs to be examined, but we have the basic stance of offering cooperation”. Executive Director Fegan-Wyles expressed gratitude to the response and says that she hopes for professionals that received education at Hiroshima University to participate actively in the UNITAR Hiroshima Office. President Ochi says, “As one of the Super Global Universities, we would like to send out the best and the brightest human resources”.

The courtesy visit from Executive Director Fegan-Wyles brought the relationship between the two organizations even closer.
