Donation for Jogjakarta Earthquake

ANNOUNCEMENT



The Indonesian Student Association in Japan (PPI Japan)-Hiroshima Branch, Japan has given aid to Yogyakarta/Java earthquake victims and has also announced the list of elementary school students who receive the scholarship in August 2006.

The total amount of Yogyakarta's humanity aid fund is Japanese Yen (JPY) 651.200,00 which is equivalent to Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) 48.795.080,00. This fund has been distributed in Bantul, Yogyakarta and Klaten Rgencies. The main portion of this fund is for supporting the school tuition fees for students in those three areas, and the rest is for giving one-off donation for the victims to rebuild their ruined houses.



1. The Earthquake Aid Program

In Bantul Regency, the fund was distributed in three different ways. Firstly, a donation was allocated to a group of sixty students of MAN Sidodadi, Parangtritis Street KM 12, Yogyakarta. The money --IDR 15.000.000,00-- was directly managed by the school authority to pay for their tuition fees. Secondly, forty other students from various schools were also given money to pay for the tuition fee directly, IDR 250.000,00 for each. Thirdly, 8 people/families were given aid to rebuild their houses. As for Yogyakarta Regency, the fund was given to 32 students, IDR 250.000,00 each. In Klaten Regency, the fund was given to 25 students of Wedi Senior High School to pay for the tuition fee for 4 months (monthly tuition fee is IDR 65.000,00) which were managed by the school authority. Other 14 students from other schools also received the donation directly, IDR 250.000,00 each.



2. The Scholarship Program for Indonesian Elementary School Students

The Indonesian Student Association in Japan, Hiroshima Branch, also continues the Scholarship Program for Elementary School Students in Indonesia. This year, the total number of students awarded the PPI Hiroshima Scholarship program is 241students, consisting of 78 new students and 163 students from last year's list. They student will continue to receive the scholarship until they complete their study at the elementary level. Among the 78 new recipients, 21 students are from Yogyakarta Province as a part of our special program on earthquake recovery. This year we also continue to give the scholarship to 14 Aceh Tsunami-victim students.



Finally, The Indonesian Student Association in Japan, Hiroshima Branch, would like to express the greatest gratitude to those who have donated their fund to help the Yogyakarta-Java earthquake victims and also to those who have been our constant donors of the scholarship program for Indonesian elementary school children.
