On July 16, 2015, the number of visitors to Hiroshima University Museum exceeded 90 thousand visitors. The 90,000th visitor was Ms. Ena Kishimoto (6) who lives in Higashi Hiroshima city. She received a present from Director Hidenori Okahashi and a bouquet from museum staff Ms. Maki Mano. The current exhibition, celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the founding of the museum, is “Sea’s natural history ~Natural history illustrations of shrimps, crabs and current leading research”. Ms. Ena Kishimoto said “I was surprised and it was great getting to know more about shrimps and crabs”.

The museum was opened in November 2006 and the number of visitors has been about 10 thousand visitors a year. The museum celebrated the 80,000th visitor in August last year, which was 11 months ago. This was made possible by the museum’s efforts such as this year’s special exhibition. The staff says, “The University Museum Association is an association of university museums in Japan. Next June, Hiroshima University will be hosting the association meeting. We hope to exceed 10 thousand visitors before June so that it adds icing on the cake!”
