Pneumonia caused by a novel Coronavirus

Cases of pneumonia caused by a novel Coronavirus have been detected since last December in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. There has been an increase in patients with novel Coronavirus infection not only in China but also in other countries including Japan.

Japanese Cabinet approved an ordinance giving the illness the designation under the Infectious Disease Control Law and the Quarantine Act on Jan. 28.

About preventive measures:Wash hands often. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing (“cough etiquette”). Avoid a crowded place.

If you visited Wuhan, please check your physical conditions carefully for 14 days after coming to Japan. If you feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty in breathing, seek medical care right away. Before you go to a doctor’s office, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms, and wear a mask when you visit.
