(2020.4.23) [Notice for students] Regarding the use of facemasks to prevent infection

Hiroshima University, Executive Vicepresident (Education)
Vicepresident (Student Support)

To all students of Hiroshima University

The online classes for the 2020 Spring Semester started on April 8 (April 15 for first-year undergraduate students). As you may be aware, due to the spreading of the coronavirus infection, there has been an increasing shortage of facemasks nationwide. Although the government is working to solve this issue, they are currently prioritizing the distribution of masks to medical institutions and nursing facilities. As a result, it is expected that it will take some time before one can start purchasing facemasks for daily use. Despite our university giving maximum effort, we are unable to provide all the students with facemasks due to the above reason. However, we believe that it is essential for students to avoid the “three Cs” (closed spaces, crowded places, close-contact settings), wash your hands often, wear facemasks, and follow cough etiquette to prevent the contraction and spreading of the infection.

HU has decided to cancel all in-person classes for the 1st term and conduct only online classes. However, we kindly ask for your cooperation to take appropriate actions based on the above-mentioned measures and wear commercially available facemasks or self-produced masks (described in the URL below) when going out, to prevent infection.
