HU completes its graduate school’s reorganizing process

In April 2020, Hiroshima University established the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering (Higashi-Hiroshima Campus) and the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (Higashi-Hiroshima and Higashi-Senda Campus).

A billboard unveiling ceremony for both graduate schools was held on April 1 on each campus. During the ceremony, President Ochi stated: "I expect students to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment that is not limited by the barriers of traditional learning."

Along with the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life and the Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences established in April 2019, the previous 11 graduate schools have been reorganized into the afore-mentioned 4 graduate schools. Please find the latest information regarding entrance examinations on each graduate school's website.

[Newly established in April 2020] Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences has reorganized the 16 major courses of the following graduate schools and consists of 4 divisions and 14 diploma programs:

  • Graduate School of Letters
  • Graduate School of Education
  • Graduate School of Social Sciences
  • Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation
  • Hiroshima University Law School

The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences has two missions: to pursue science for humans and society and to build a sustainable and peaceful world through education. This organization aims to develop human resources who are capable of sharing values with specialists of other fields and being engaged in cooperation for realizing such values by cultivating interest for other fields than their specialties in addition to the existing academic field.

The Division of Advanced Science and Engineering was established as a school for science and engineering to develop human resources that will take a central role in the exploration of unknown scientific principles and technological and scientific innovation in the future.

The Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life has reorganized the 7 major courses of the following graduate schools and consists of 7 diploma programs.

  • Graduate School of Advanced Sciences of Matter
  • Graduate School of Biosphere Science
  • Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences
  • Graduate School of Science

This graduate school develops human resources who have a keen interest in other academic disciplines and the ability to play an active role in interdisciplinary and integrated research fields, and who can promptly adapt to ever-changing and developing biological and life science research areas – including genomics, brain, and neurological sciences, food science, ecosystem/environmental science, and medical science – and to solve various challenges facing global society.

[Established in April 2019] Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences

The Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences reorganized the Graduate School of Medical & Health Sciences and has 2 divisions. It aims to nurture highly-advanced medical professionals who can take leading roles in advanced team health care, and promote the foremost educational research through deepening basic research, and collaboration/integration between the 4 disciplines; medical sciences, dental sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and health sciences.
