Notice regarding the use of data communications

About appropriate use of data communications (Request)

Apr. 10th, 2020
Makoto Miyatani, Executive Vice President (Education)

Dear HU students

As part of the measures against the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Hiroshima University has begun its online classes for the 2020 1st term, starting April 8th (Wed). Having worked to promote its online environment on campus, which enables its students to take online classes, we now speculate that we will have a greater number of classes given online.

Given the importance of education, and with the purpose of offering students ideal communication services, some telecommunications service providers have begun to offer special services where students attending online classes (aged 25 or under) are able to receive additional data free of charge within the designated limit. (These services vary according to the provider. For details, please refer to the website of each provider.)

Under the current circumstances, it is important for us to secure enough communication capability to smoothly conduct online classes. However, we now are seriously concerned about excessive internet use for entertainment purposes such as entertainment videos, SNS and online games, as it may hinder communications necessary for our education.

Therefore, in order to secure the ideal environment for online education, we kindly ask you to avoid heavy data use (including Wi-Fi service available on campus) for your entertainment.
