In order to provide all students with the opportunity to learn as much as possible, while prioritizing the health and safety of students and staff, Hiroshima University conducted all lessons of the 1st term online.
Although the state of emergency was lifted in Hiroshima Prefecture on Thursday, May 14th, in order to return to normal education and research activities as soon as possible, it is necessary to prevent new cases of COVID-19 on campus. In line with this, classes of the 2nd term (starting Tuesday June 16th) will be conducted as follows.
- In principle, classes will be conducted online.
- Classes in which educational value cannot be gained without meeting in-person, such as experiments and practical training, may be conducted based on the judgement of the dean, if prior permission has been obtained from the Headquarters for Education and sufficient measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are in place.
- The instructor of each class will be notified by the dean regarding the implementation of their class. Please check the syllabus and class information released via “My Momiji”.
【Class Implementation at Level 1.5】
Roughly two weeks have passed since the beginning of the second term and since there have been no new cases of COVID-19 on campus, or within the prefecture, HU has decided to lower its alert level to “Level 1.5” (based on HU’s Activity Restrictions Index), starting from July 1st.
In principle, classes will continue to be conducted online. However, in-person activities will gradually be expanded from July 20th, providing sufficient measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 are in place, while also monitoring the rate of infection and practicing “a new lifestyle”.
- In order for classes to be conducted in person, there must be no more than 20 students. Furthermore, the dean must judge that there are sufficient measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and prior permission must be obtained from the Headquarters of Education.
- For some subjects, final examinations will be conducted in person.
(2020.7.31 Update) 【Refraining from domestic movement to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus infection】
- If you move to 5 prefectures of Hokkaido, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo or Kanagawa by August 31, please report the period and area of your stay to your tutor or academic supervisor promptly after returning to Hiroshima Prefecture, considering the circumstances so far.
※Even if you have moved from the 5 prefectures by August 31, please report the period and area you were staying to your tutor or academic supervisor as soon as you arrive in Hiroshima.
- Until August 31, check the infection status and information provided by the prefectures to which you are moving, and refrain from moving to or from the high-risk areas.
- Continue to carry out the "A health status confirmation questionnaire/Movements Record Sheets" posted in My Momiji as June 1.
- In case you are not able to attend in-person classes for the 2nd term due to health conditions or the necessity of self-isolation, please send an email to the teacher in charge describing your situation and do not come to class. In this case, your absence will not be treated as an “absence”, and will not cause you any disadvantage.
※The above schedule may be changed depending on the developing situation of COVID-19. If there are changes, we will inform you promptly on our website.
Things to keep in mind when entering campus and participating in classes and research activities
- Please perform a self-check each morning to ensure you do not have symptoms such as a fever (※), severe drowsiness (malaise), a cough, difficulty breathing (dyspnea), a sore throat, a headache, or a problem with smell/taste.
※A fever is when your body temperature is 37.5℃ or above, or a temperature of one degree more than usual.
(1) If you have any of the above symptoms (even if it is just one), please contact your tutor or academic advisor by email and self-isolate at home.
・The self-isolation period is 8 days after the symptoms first appear, and 3 days after all symptoms have cleared up without the use of medicine.
・During the self-isolation period, please check for the above mentioned symptoms each morning, if your condition changes, contact your tutor or academic advisor by email.
・If you are student in the Kasumi area who wants to participate in clinical training, follow the procedures of the training facility and its medical staff.
(2) If a person who you are living with exhibits any of the above symptoms (providing you are without symptoms), please wear a mask and wash and disinfect your hands before entering facilities on campus.
- As a provision for the case of a potential infection, please record the date, time and facility you entered.
- On campus, be sure to thoroughly carry out the three fundamental measures to prevent infection: ① Keep a physical distance ② Wear a mask ③ Wash your hands
- Make sure to always wear a mask on campus. If you do not wear a mask, you will not be permitted to enter any of the facilities.
- When participating in in-person lessons or research activities or eating in the cafeteria etc. please ensure you keep a distance of 2 meters (at the minimum, 1 meter) with those around you.
- Whenever possible, avoid face-to-face conversations.
- When indoors, avoid the “three Cs” (confined and crowded spaces, and close human contact). You can do this by properly ventilating rooms, and not speaking loudly etc.
