The 2nd Annual Peace Lecture was held on Sunday, July 8, at the Higashi-Hiroshima campus with invited guest Dr. Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. Over 400 students and members of the community gathered to hear Dr. Yunus' lecture on Development and Peace. During the lecture, he described how he founded Grameen Bank and discussed how "capitalistic thinking is creating today’s poverty," and "we must put effort into creating social business for the sake of the people." Dr. Yunus closed his lecture with these words: "What wonderful world awaits us in 50 years? If each person write their vision of that world on a piece of paper, tacks it to a wall, and puts effort toward that vision, then it will most certainly become a reality."
