Seminar on Europe's Bologna Process



As a part of Faculty Development (FD) and Staff Development (SD), we will be holding the following seminar for faculty and staff at our university with an expert on Europe's Bologna Process.



We would like to invite those in charge of planning for the international development in education and conducting quality assurance for education, etc, or those who are interested to please join us.



We ask that those who wish to participate send the application below to the International Planning and Cooperation Group in the International Affairs Bureau via e-mail (kokusai-kikaku (at) office.hiroshima-u.ac.jp) by Friday, December 14, 2007.

Lecturer: Dr. Robert Wagenaar, Director of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Arts, the University of Groningen, The Netherlands



Topic: Reforming Higher Education in Europe -- The Introduction of Learning Outcomes and Workload-Based Credits



Dr. Wagenaar wi11 discuss the background of the development of the Bologna Process, a process currently taking place within European Higher Education, as well as the meaning of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), his views on workload, and Learning Outcomes, etc, from his experience in engaging in significant reforms in European Higher Education such as the development of a European Credit and Transfer System (ECTS) and a European Qualifications Framework.



* Bologna Process: Process which aims to unite the Higher Education Systems in Europe



* European Qualifications Framework: Framework which aims to unite the qualifications for degrees, etc, in Europe



Moderator: Dr. Taiji Hotta, Associate Professor at the International Student Center

Lecturer Profile: Dr. Robert Wagenaar is a European Commission Higher Education Expert who has been involved in important initiatives reform the structure of European Higher Education, such as the development of a European Credit and Transfer System (ECTS) and a European Qualifications Framework. Dr. Wagenaar has played a central role in the promotion of the Bologna Process, which is already in place in the Netherlands.
