An opening ceremony to mark the completion of the Shitami-Kagamiyama District Bus Terminal was held on March 18, 2023.

The new terminal is at the central entrance of the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus.

Attendees included Higashihiroshima City Mayor Hironori Takagaki, Higashihiroshima City Council Chairman Kenji Ishihara, Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ochi, and many others. 

During the ceremony, which included a ribbon-cutting and preview, Mayor Takagaki expressed his gratitude to the guests, and said in his greeting, “This terminal will truly strengthen the urban axis of Higashihiroshima City and lead to its further development.” 

President Mitsuo Ochi stated, “I expect that this will not only ensure the safety of bus users and pedestrians but also further strengthen the ties between our university and the community.”

After the ceremony, President Ochi and Professor Takahiro Tanaka from the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering unveiled a stone monument inscribed with Hiroshima University.

Professor Tanaka and a graduate student in the Architecture Program (at the time) provided the design and assistance in the construction of the “Shitami-Kagamiyama District Bus Terminal.”

The waiting room is called “Konoha Terrace” and is equipped with air conditioning and toilets.

In addition to enhancing the convenience of buses and overall transportation for the people of Higashihiroshima, the new terminal aims to revitalize the area by facilitating connections to taxis and micro-mobility, which is expected to become widespread in the future.
