Hiroshima University Attached Fukuyama Junior and Senior High School was awarded the top award in the Rose Garden Competition held as part of the Fukuyama City Flower Festival 2003. This is the third time that the School has received this award since 2000. In April 2001 the original rose garden was closed for a short period due to the beginning of construction of the Information and Education Building, but was re-opened with its current design in February 2002. At the last rose garden competition, the flowers had just stated to bloom, but had not reached full bloom by the time of the competition. However, this year after a year of hard work the flowers bloomed as planned enabling the School to achieve the top award.
There are 100 varieties of roses and over 1000 rose trees in the School grounds. They are centered around the Information and Education Building, but can also be found between the School's buildings and along the road (approx. 200m) leading to the School's entrance. The School's roses are enjoyed not only by its pupils, but by pupils at the elementary school close by and locals living in the area.
The School's pupils have put a lot of effort throughout the year into raising the roses so that they will bloom beautifully. Congratulations to the students and staff for their efforts in achieving such a fine award.
