Materials for the 21st Century
V. Murugesan, Department of Chemistry, Anna University
Abstract: Materials Science has become a core area of research due to its potential contributions to manufacturing processes and innovative products.Material Science research grew faster than other physical sciences including physics, chemistry and engineering during the last two decades. This lecture will give a glimpse of graphene and its potential for a new generation electronics, metal organic frameworks and their possible application in energy storage devices, ordered nano-porous materials and their applications in catalysis, adsorption and separation, semiconducting nano-materials and their importance in environmental pollution control strategies and electrospun nano-fibrous scaffolds for tissue engineering, which may be used for routine reconstitution and replacement of diseased or damaged organs. Anna University
Anna University is the only university in India which hasa cooperative agreementwith Hiroshima University. Since November 2010, joint lectures have been held both in Chennai, India, and Hiroshima,Japan.InDecember 2012,International Workshop and National Seminar on Crystal Growth will be jointly held in Chennai, with Professor Shin Yokoyama, Research Institute for Nanodevice and Bio Systems as speaker from Hiroshima University.
